At the TsKIB SOO was developed a sniper version of the single load 7.62 mm MTs-116 rifle. It's barrel bore is sealed by the free "sliding" rotating bolt with two locking lugs. The curved handle of the bolt is located over the trigger guard during the barrel locking.
The striking mechanism is assembled in the bolt, the striker is cocked during the unlocking, the tail of the striker serves as an indicator of the cocked state. The releasing mechanism is assembled on a separate base and is being regulated in conformity with a force pull of the trigger from 1.5 to 2.55 kg, and the length of its travel (from 0.5 to 2 mm). The sighting aids are mounted on detachable brackets.
In 1997 the TsKIB SOO had presented the MTs-116 variant with a 5 or 10-round removable magazine, the new butt with a short fore grip and the stock with a developed grip boss of the neck (then the rifle was presented on the part of KBP).
The butt is adjusted in vertical and cross direction, while the "cheek" is adjusted only in vertical direction.
The guiding slide of the fore grip is used for attachment of the bipod. The slit flash suppressor is attached to the muzzle of a barrel.
The rifle can be shipped complete with the PKS-07U optical sight with magnification 7x and the night sight
The magazine sniper rifle MTs-116 is a precision weapon and is being manufactured on the special custom's order.
Although the "sniper" 7N1 and 7N14 cartridges are outperformed in terms of accuracy the "Extra" cartridge (intended for the MTs-116), the magazine rifle derived from the "sport" version features more accuracy than the self-loaded one.
